On Friday Oct 30th, a resident was running early in the morning (5:00 a.m) and came across a coyote on Cache Bay, it was in the driveway of the last house closest to the highway and had been at the garbages. Upon seeing the individual, it initially ran toward the highway but then changed its mind and started running after the individual for about 30 seconds before giving up.
If you encounter a coyote that approaches you, please contact the Ministry of Natural Resources to report these incidents.
Below you will find an information sheet, provided by the City of Ottawa:
Quick Facts:
• Coyotes are social animals usually living in small territorial family groups in contrast to the larger packs associated with their cousins the grey wolf and eastern (Algonquin) wolf.
• Average coyote size in eastern Ontario is 35 – 50 lbs although they may appear to be much larger.
